AI Research Mentorship, Fall 2026

The Fall 2026 AI Research Mentorship will support two early-career researchers of African descent in completing a focused AI research project.

The programme is led by Olukunle Owolabi, who has mentored students and early-career researchers pursuing graduate study and research.

Participants will work closely with Olukunle and a small research community that meets regularly to review ideas and progress.

Who this is for

  • Students and early-career researchers of African descent
  • Preparing for, or seriously considering, a PhD
  • Able to commit at least 20 hours per week
  • Ready to take ownership of a research project

What participants receive

  • Direct mentorship on an AI research project
  • Guidance from research question to completed work
  • Regular feedback from a small research community
  • Support with research writing and publication
  • Funding for necessary research tools, including API credits, compute, and software
